Increase Pageviews With A Seasonal Sidebar

Objective: Increase pageviews to your blog using your sidebar to highlight older seasonal blog posts.

Seasonal blog posts get lost in your archives, especially if you’ve been blogging for awhile. New readers have obviously not seen your older blog posts and loyal readers need reminders too. By showcasing relevant content, for the current season in your sidebar, you’ll see an increase in pageviews.

HOW TO INCREASE PAGEVIEWS WITH A SEASONAL SIDEBAR

  1. Look to see if you have any seasonal blog posts.

Most of us have older blog posts centered around the bigger holidays (Christmas, Easter, Halloween) and/or seasons (Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer), but don’t forget other seasonal events (like back-to-school, SuperBowl, etc).

If you’re a new blogger you won’t have seasonal blog posts, BUT start thinking about this NOW and pin this post so you remember to do this in the near future!

A few ideas:
-Recipes (comfort food in the Winter, Easter dessert)
-Tips (Spring cleaning, Fall mudroom organization)
-Home Decorating or Tours (Transition to Spring, Christmas Home Tour)
-Crafts or DIYs (Patio painting, gift tags)
-Gift Guides (Summer wardrobe, Christmas)

  1. Choose 3-5 of your best posts. More than 5 starts to get overwhelming for your readers!
  1. Add your seasonal blog posts to your sidebar.

One way is to create a pretty graphic and add it to your sidebar with a link to the actual post. I show you step-by-step how to add an image to your sidebar and make it clickable in last weeks blog post.

Another way is to simply add text to your sidebar with a link to the actual post. Here’s how:

-In your WordPress dashboard, go to Posts/Add New.
-Type in your word or words of the post you’d like to share on your sidebar. Then insert the link (url of the actual blog post). Click on ‘align center’. Then click on the TEXT tab to show you your code. Copy this code. (1-2)
-Add a new text widget in Appearance/Widgets to your sidebar widget. Paste the code you saved above. Click SAVE. (3)
-Now you will have clickable text on your sidebar. (4)

You’re done for now… but you’ll want to change these out when the next season starts!

I hope you enjoyed this 10 Minute Marketing to increase pageviews with a seasonal sidebar.

    1. You should! You have a ton of seasonal material that you can change easily each season… and it lets new people see your ‘older’ fabulous material or remind existing readers to peek again.
