Why Do People blog? The Benefits of Blogging
When blogging first started, it was mainly a bunch of ‘mommy’ bloggers with glorified online journals, having fun, staying in touch with family/friends – and making money wasn’t the goal!
Since the early days of blogging, the blogging world has changed immensely! Now people blog for a lot of different reasons. And there are also different types of blogs – business, lifestyle, fashion, food, mommy, entertainment, etc.
I’ve been hearing a lot of chatter on Instagram lately, people wondering if blogging is worth the time and effort. The short answer is YES! Blogging on a consistent basis is a relatively easy, inexpensive way to drive traffic to your site, work with brands (and make money working with brands), get published in national magazines, attract more perspective customers and generate sales.

The benefits of blogging are plentiful. Here’s a list of reasons why people blog and how blogging can benefit your personal and/or professional life.
SHARE YOUR PASSIONS
There are a number of blogs that serve as a platform for people to share and voice their ideas, thoughts, feelings, and skills. Whether your passion is home décor, cooking, diy, photography, house remodeling or flipping, blogging gives you the opportunity to connect with other like-minded people who share the same passions as you.
Real Life Example: White Sparrow Farm shares several of their passions and it’s why they have a tribe of farmhouse fanatics, true blue DIYers and mama bear fashion maven followers!
SHARE YOUR KNOWLEDGE
Do you love to teach? Starting a blog can be a way for you to educate others in your field of expertise. The best part is, as you build resources on your blog teaching others, you might also be able to create products or services online that make you money.
Real Life Example: I wrote my ebook, How To Start A Blog mostly from already written blog posts – and have sold thousands of downloads!
MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Some people’s passions lean towards supporting a favorite cause. No matter what the cause, a blog is a great way to build awareness, educate and gain support.
Real Life Example: The Ivory Arrow Blog is written by Hannah Peters whose sweet boy Jude was born with a very rare form of RCDP and has now become a resource for others fighting the cause! Hannah and Jude are gifts from God and together, through the blog, they are making a difference to help other families with RCDP.
BUILD YOUR NETWORK
Blogging is about community! And networking is one of the reasons people engage in it. Want to facilitate your blog’s growth? Build relationships with your readers AND other bloggers/businesses.
Real Life Example: Meeting up with other bloggers on a mini vacay to bond, have fun, and share blogging tips. Left to right: Brittany/Addison’s Wonderland, Erin/The Sunny Side Up Blog, Bree/Z Design At Home, Shauna/The House of Silver Lining, Tana/Your Marketing BFF.
EARN MORE EXPOSURE + MARKET YOUR BUSINESS
Businesses create blogs mainly to expand their online presence, connect with prospective customers/clients, promote their brand + portfolio, and even generate revenue.
Creating blog content that is helpful, valuable, and/or entertaining is a highly effective way to grow your site traffic (and bottom line).
Real Life Example: CC + Mike is a husband and wife team building custom homes, remodels, full service and e-designs.
MAKE MONEY ONLINE
Some people start their blogs never looking to make money (that was me) , but along the way, they gain exposure and eventually generate money and in my case, a full-time, work from home income.
Real Life: According to Later, an Instagram marketing platform, influencers with audiences of 50,000 to 500,000 reported earning an average of about $70,000 a year, with more than half of their income from sponsored content.
